(LOS ANGELES, June 18, 2009) – The late spring gas price spike has finished up its seventh straight week with no end in sight as it boosted all Southern California price averages above $3, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California’s Weekend Gas Watch.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.023 per gallon, which is 8.5 cents more than last week, 50 cents higher than last month, and $1.60 less than last year. In San Diego, the price is $3.045, which is nine cents more than last week’s price, 50 cents above last month, and $1.58 lower than last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.059, up 7.9 cents from last week, 47 cents above last month, and $1.65 below last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per gallon price is $3.019, which is nine cents more than last week, 50 cents more than last month, and $1.59 less than last year.
“It’s harder to find many gas stations with prices under $3 in Southern California now, but as of today there were still some in several cities including Anaheim, Northridge, San Bernardino, Chula Vista, Long Beach and Lompoc,” said Auto Club spokesperson Jeffrey Spring. “It’s usually not worth it to drive out of your way to save a few cents on gas, particularly right now when there’s little difference in prices among the stations.”
