Northern California cities have been setting new daily all-time gas price records for more than two weeks due to refinery issues, while Southern California gas prices continue to get nearer to their all-time record levels driven by high oil prices, according to the Auto Club’s Weekend Gas Watch. The average price for self-serve regular gasoline in California is $4.65, which is three cents higher than last week and just two cents under the all-time record price of $4.67 reached on Oct. 9. 2012. The average national price is $3.42, which is unchanged from a week ago.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $4.62 per gallon, which is three cents higher than last week, 18 cents higher than last month, $1.46 higher than last year, and nine cents below the highest price average ever. In San Diego, the average price is $4.58, which is up four cents from last week, 19 cents higher than last month, $1.43 higher than last year, and 15 cents below the record price.
On the Central Coast, the average price is $4.57, which is four cents higher than last week, 18 cents higher than last month, $1.38 higher than last year, and 14 cents below the record. In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $4.54, which is three cents higher than last week, 19 cents higher than last month, $1.42 higher than last year and 15 cents below the record. In Bakersfield, the $4.58 average price is four cents higher than last week, 20 cents higher than last month, $1.46 higher than a year ago today and seven cents below the record price.
“The Auto Club is projecting 4.4 million travelers for the Thanksgiving holiday, with 3.8 million of them driving to their holiday destinations,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “We are urging travelers to minimize their fuel expense by making sure their tires are properly inflated, shopping around for the cheapest gas prices with the AAA Mobile app, and taking advantage of discounts such as the Shell Fuel Rewards program for AAA members.”
