Gasoline production hiccups led to slight increases in Southern California pump prices, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s retail statewide average is $3.22 a gallon for regular unleaded, three cents higher than last week.

The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.21 per gallon, which is two cents more than last week, eight cents higher than a month ago, and 38 cents lower than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $3.22, which is two cents higher than last Thursday, six cents more than last month, and 37 cents lower than last year.

On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.23, which is two cents higher than last week, six cents higher than last month, and 47 cents lower than last year.  In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $3.16, which is two cents more than last week, six cents higher than last month, and 35 cents lower than last year. In Bakersfield, the $3.13 average price is one cent higher than last week, four cents higher than last month, and 58 cents lower than a year ago today.

“Production problems at a hydrogen plant that provides power to Southern California refineries, as well as a couple of planned and unplanned refinery flarings, appear to be the major reasons that gas prices rose last week,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring.

The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on Aug. 20, averages are:
