Gas price averages moved very little over the holiday weekend and have remained in a narrow 10-cent range between $2.78 and $2.88 a gallon in the Los Angeles area for 11 straight weeks, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail state average is $2.814 a gallon for regular today, six-tenths of one cent more than last Thursday.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $2.836 per gallon, which is three-tenths of a penny higher than last week, 2.3 cents lower than last month, and $1.01 lower than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $2.819, which is three-tenths of a cent higher than last week, one-tenth of a cent higher than last month, and 98 cents less than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $2.859, two-tenths of a penny less than last week, five-tenths of a cent higher than a month ago, and 94 cents less than last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per-gallon price is $2.769, no change from last week, three cents less than last month, and 99 cents less than last year.
“Last week’s news that the Torrance ExxonMobil refinery can currently operate at only 75 percent capacity has so far had little impact on gas prices, other than perhaps failing to provide a downward push,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “The refinery must reportedly repair or purchase a piece of equipment before it can operate at full capacity and its planned sale to PBF Refining can be completed.”
The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on June 2, averages are:
