Gas prices in Southern California have now dropped slowly but steadily for the past month in most areas, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail statewide average is $3.15 a gallon for regular unleaded, three cents lower than last Thursday.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.19 per gallon, which is three cents less than last Thursday, 11 cents lower than last month, and 46 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $3.16, which is four cents lower than a week ago, ten cents less than last month, and 43 cents more than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.21, which is four cents lower than last Thursday, also four cents lower than last month, and 47 cents higher than last year. In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $3.13, which is three cents lower than last week, eight cents less than last month, and 47 cents more than at this time last year.
“At the moment, Los Angeles wholesale gasoline prices are at their lowest levels since early October, which should provide room for further price drops at the pump,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. ”Average retail gas prices today are just about 12 cents higher than they were two months ago, which is the same amount as the Nov. 1 gas tax increase.”
The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on Dec. 7, averages are:
