Retail gasoline prices have continued downward for a second consecutive week in all areas, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail state average is $4.023 a gallon for regular today, 5.3 cents less than last week.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $4.038 per gallon, which is 6.3 cents less than last week, 9.6 cents less than last month, and 6.1 cents lower than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $4.005, which is 6.1 cents less than last week, 9.8 cents higher than last month, and 6 cents lower than last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $4.083, 3.8 cents less than last week, 6.6 cents lower than a month ago, and 5.4 cents less than last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per-gallon price is $4.017, down 6.1 cents from last week, 8.1 cents less than last month, and 4.4 cents less than last year.
“Refineries are running at a higher capacity which has added to the overall supply, and as a result, many regions in Southern California are on the cusp of seeing the average price fall below $4 a gallon,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “Drivers in most regions should see prices below $4 a gallon if they shop around. This should benefit Southern Californians who are planning driving vacations this summer.”
