Gas prices continued downward for the fourth week in a row, although the drops amounted to less than two cents in the last week in most areas, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail state average is $4.122 a gallon for regular today, 1.4 cents less than last week.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $4.147 per gallon, which is 1.8 cents less last week, 18 cents lower than last month, and 10 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $4.115, which is 1.6 cents below last week, 18 cents lower than last month, and 10 cents higher than last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $4.171, down one-tenth of one cent from last week, 16 cents lower than a month ago, and 6 cents more than last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per-gallon price is $4.114, down 1.7 cents from last week, 17 cents less than last month, and 11 cents more than last year.
“Gas price drops have slowed to a trickle and could actually start rising slightly again based on Los Angeles wholesale price increases in the past couple of weeks,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “If those wholesale prices stay at their current levels, don’t expect pump prices to drop much further. We’re not seeing an obvious reason for this wholesale increase, which has amounted to about 25 cents a gallon since May 8.”
The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on May 29, averages are:
