Second Straight Month of Gas Price Hikes

(LOS ANGELES, Nov. 9, 2010) —Local gas prices posted slight increases over the last month but so far have resisted huge jumps in response to last week’s skyrocketing oil prices, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California monthly Fuel Gauge Report.

The Southern California November average price for regular unleaded self-serve gasoline is $3.127, almost three cents higher than the October average of $3.094.

The statewide average price of $3.142 is almost a nickel higher than the October average of $3.096. La Habra has the lowest average price in the state at $3.064, while South Lake Tahoe again has the highest gas price average at $3.313. The highest-priced gas among surveyed Southern California cities is Blythe at $3.228.

Nationally, the November average price of $2.857 is almost five cents higher than the October average of $2.811. Alaska continues to have the most expensive gas in the country with an average price of $3.515. Missouri has the lowest state average price at $2.651.

“Midwestern states have experienced price spikes in the past week that some analysts have mainly attributed to skyrocketing oil prices, but so far the rest of the country has seen only modest price increases since oil shot above $85 a barrel,” said Auto Club spokesperson Jeffrey Spring. “The fact that fuel demand continues to lag below 2009 levels could be outweighing the upward pressure of oil prices.”
