Editors note: Weekend Gas Watch is being published one day early this week and next week due to the holidays.
Christmas travelers are getting the gift of extra cash in their wallets as Southern California gas prices continue to quickly drop, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail state average is $2.708 a gallon for regular today, 10.5 cents less than last Thursday.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $2.731 per gallon, which is 10.2 cents less than last Thursday, 39 cents less than last month, and 92 cents lower than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $2.697, which is 10.8 cents less than last Thursday, 40 cents lower than last month, and 94 cents lower than last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $2.812, 6.6 cents less than last Thursday, 31 cents lower than a month ago, and 86 cents less than last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per-gallon price is $2.682, down 10.4 cents from last Thursday, 40 cents less than last month, and 94 cents less than last year.
“Local prices are falling very quickly, and although wholesale prices jumped up this week from five-year low points, there continues to be room for further declines at the pump,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “With an all-time record number of travelers projected for this year-end holiday travel period, that’s welcome news.”
The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on Dec. 24, averages are:
