Gas prices in Southern California backed down slightly in the past week, remaining within the unusually stable price range of the past two months, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail statewide average is $3.007 a gallon for regular unleaded, half a cent lower than a week ago.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.039 per gallon, which is 1.2 cents lower than last week, 2.3 cents higher than last month, and 21 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $3.014, which is 1.4 cents lower than last week, unchanged from last month, and 22 cents more than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.099, 2.3 cents less than last week, two cents higher than a month ago, and 26 cents higher than last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per-gallon price is $3.002, two-tenths of a cent less than last week, two cents more than this time last month, and 20 cents more than last year.
“Domestic oil production has increased this year to counteract cuts in oil output from OPEC countries, and local refineries so far have not experienced major incidents affecting gasoline production,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “Those two factors are the major reasons behind an unusually stable spring season for Southern California gas prices.”
The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on April 27, averages are:
