Gas prices in Southern California declined for a second consecutive week with most regions dropping below $3 per gallon, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail statewide average is $2.985 a gallon for regular unleaded, 2.2 cents lower than a week ago.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.017 per gallon, which is 2.2 cents lower than last week, nine-tenths of a cent lower than last month, and 18 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $2.994, which is 2 cents lower than last week, 1.1 cents lower than last month, and 18 cents more than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.074, 2.5 cents less than last week, one cent lower than a month ago, and 20 cents higher than last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per-gallon price is $2.978, four-tenths of a cent less than last week, four-tenths of a cent more than this time last month, and 15 cents more than last year. (Note: San Bernardino and Riverside gas prices are re-combined this week.)
“We’ve had unusually stable prices this spring because oil prices have remained close to $50 per barrel. We have also seen U.S. domestic oil production act as a safety valve against production cuts by OPEC countries,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “We’ve also been fortunate to not have any major refinery incidents occur locally.”
