New AAA PetBook Offers Doggie Dining Spots

Members Can Now Submit Pet Travel Photos For 2015 PetBook Contest

A well-planned vacation that includes furry family members is fun for everyone, but some travelers struggle with what to do with their pets while dining out. To provide even more opportunities for together time, AAA travel experts added a restaurant section to the 16th edition of Traveling with Your Pet: The AAA PetBook®. The listings include nearly 700 AAA Approved and Diamond Rated restaurants across the U.S. and Canada that welcome pets in outside dining areas.

“For more than 15 years The AAA PetBook has been helping travelers plan getaways that include pet-friendly places to stay and play,” said Tamara Hill, Group Manager of Publishing and Travel Services for the Automobile Club of Southern California. “We’re excited to expand that offering with dining information. For travelers who think of their pets as family, the newest book makes it easier to include everyone in the vacation.”

A few restaurants in Southern California listed in the book that welcome pets include:

  • Antonello’s Ristorante, Santa Ana
  • Cosmo’s Italian Kitchen,  Aliso Viejo
  • Broken Yolk Café, Carlsbad
  • First & Hope American Bistro, Los Angeles
  • Rockwell Table & Sage, Los Angeles
  • Bayside Restaurant, Newport Beach
  • Spencer’s Restaurant, Palm Springs
  • Madam Lu Chinese Restaurant, Santa Barbara
  • Edgewater Grill, San Diego
  • The Prado at Balboa Park, San Diego

The AAA PetBook provides detailed listings — including pet policies, amenities and fees —for more than 13,000 AAA Approved and Diamond Rated hotels, plus more than 800 pet-friendly campgrounds. For recreation planning, the book lists national public lands and attractions that allow pets and 300 dog parks in the most popular travel destinations. Tips for first-timers and seasoned pet travelers address packing, pet etiquette, border crossing and emergency vet clinics.

The release of the new edition also marks the opening of the next annual AAA PetBook Photo Contest sponsored by Best Western. Travelers who snap a photo of their pet on vacation can enter through Nov. 30. Each year, winners are selected to appear on covers of the next edition and receive additional prizes. See inside The AAA PetBook for details, or access official rules, an entry form and the contest photo gallery at AAA.com/PetBook.

The 16th edition print version of Traveling with Your Pet: The AAA PetBook is available at many AAA and CAA branches as well as select bookstores for a suggested retail price of $18.95. The digital edition, available at online booksellers, carries a suggested retail price of $9.99.
