Further gas price declines in the last week brought many more station prices below $3 a gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail statewide average is $3.03 a gallon for regular unleaded, four cents less a week ago.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.01 per gallon, which is three cents below last week, unchanged from last month, and 12 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $2.98, which is three cents lower than last week, unchanged from last month, and 11 cents more than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.05, two cents less than last week, two cents higher than last month, and 13 cents higher than last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per-gallon price is $2.96, which is down three cents from last week, one cent less than last month, and 12 cents more than last year.
“Both oil and fuel supplies are plentiful for now, and Los Angeles wholesale unleaded gasoline prices have dropped by about 35 cents in the past month,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “If those trends hold steady, there is room for retail prices to drop significantly further in coming weeks.”
The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on June 15, averages are:
