Southern California travelers enjoyed more price declines this week over last week, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail state average is $2.829 a gallon for regular today, 3.7 cents less than last Thursday, three cents less than on this day last month and $1.05 per gallon lower than a year ago.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $2.879 per gallon, which is 4.3 cents lower than last week, 3 cents higher than last month, and $1.39 cents lower than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $2.867, which is 4.7 cents lower than last week, a penny lower than last month, and $1.33 less than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $2.920, 5.4 cents less than last week, 2 cents higher than a month ago, and $1.23 less than last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per-gallon price is $2.839, 4.2 cents less than last week, 1 cent less than last month, and $1.35 less than last year.
“Last year, some large California refineries were suffering from a number of unexpected problems, which led to higher gas prices during the peak driving season,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “Refineries are running more smoothly this summer, which has helped prices remain cheaper than a year ago.”
