Monthly Gas Price Drops Slightly, Says Auto Club

(LOS ANGELES, Dec. 11, 2007) - The average monthly Southern California gas price decreased by about a penny a week since November, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California monthly Fuel Gauge Report.

The Southern California December average price for regular self-serve gasoline is $3.314, down from $3.355 on November 13. The average price is still 80 cents higher than the same time last year.

"While oil prices remain stubbornly above $90 a barrel, reduced demand has caused prices to decrease slightly in the recent days," said Auto Club spokesperson Carol Thorp. "This is traditionally a lower-demand time of year for gasoline, but the usual drop in pricing hasn't been experienced yet because of higher oil prices."

Only Hawaii, where regular unleaded is averaging $3.433 a gallon, is more expensive than California. The Golden State's average price for December is $3.331, down 5.4 cents from November. The state's lowest average price is in La Habra and Anaheim, where regular sells for $3.204. San Francisco has the highest average price at $3.549.
Nationally, the average price is $2.995, down 11 cents from $3.105 in November. Missouri has the lowest average price, at $2.762.
