Halloween weekend motorists will get a treat at the pump by paying about 50 cents per gallon less than at this time last year after nine straight weeks of price drops, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail state average is $2.832 a gallon for regular today, 3.1 cents less than last week.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $2.928 per gallon, which is 3.7 cents less than last week, 19 cents less than last month, and 46 cents lower than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $2.878, which is 3.5 cents less than last week, 17 cents lower than last month, and 50 cents less than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $2.936, 2.6 cents less than last week, 15 cents lower than a month ago, and 50 cents less than last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per-gallon price is $2.857, 3.8 cents lower than last week, 17 cents less than last month, and 50 cents less than last year.
“As of this Sunday, not only will our time change away from daylight saving time, our local gas stations are authorized to start selling the ‘winter blend’ of gasoline, which is cheaper to produce,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “Provided no supply crisis occurs, the switch to the cheaper gasoline blend should spur some further price decreases.”
The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on Oct. 29, averages are:
