“A year ago at this time, local drivers were paying nearly a dollar less a gallon, or about $15 less per tank,” said Auto Club spokesperson Jeffrey Spring. “Even though we never reached the record $4.50-plus prices of 2008, drivers have paid the same amount on average so far this year as they did between Jan. 1 and Sept. 15 of 2008. This year’s average price for the Los Angeles area so far is $3.84.”
