Gas Prices Still Dropping, But More Slowly

Thanksgiving weekend holiday travelers are set to pay almost the same as this time last year for gas after another week of continuing price drops, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California’s Weekend Gas Watch. The state average is $3.827 a gallon for regular today – 8.9 cents lower than last week and 84 cents lower than the $4.671 new record price set on Oct. 9.

The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.872 per gallon, which is 8.9 cents less than last week, 77.6 cents lower than last month, and 3 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the price is $3.833, 7.8 cents below last week, 80.7 cents below last month, and 1 cent higher than last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.944, down 10.5 cents from last week, 69.5 cents lower than a month ago, and 6 cents above last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per gallon price is $3.824, down 7.8 cents from last week, 80.6 cents lower than last month, and two-tenths of one cent less than last year.

“Gas prices aren’t coming down nearly as fast as in prior weeks, but they are 30 cents below where they were at the start of October before the price spike, and almost at the same level as last year,” said Auto Club spokesperson Jeffrey Spring. “If prices continue to drop, Thanksgiving holiday travelers should be able to get a 15-gallon fill-up for about $55 before heading out of town if they seek out the lowest-priced stations.”

The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on Nov. 15, averages are:
