Gas prices moved very little in recent days despite a power outage at the Torrance refinery formerly owned by ExxonMobil Monday that interrupted production, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail state average is $2.756 a gallon for regular today, four-tenths of one cent more than last Thursday.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $2.78 per gallon, which is nine-tenths of a cent lower than last week, nine cents higher than last month, and 41 cents lower than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $2.76, which is three-tenths of a penny lower than last week, seven cents higher than last month, and 37 cents less than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $2.803, 1.4 cents more than last week, seven cents higher than a month ago, and 37 cents less than last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per-gallon price is $2.715, four-tenths of a cent less than last week, eight cents more than last month, and 39 cents less than last year.
“The refinery in Torrance now owned by PBF Energy experienced a complete shutdown Monday morning after a power outage in the South Bay area, and it’s unclear how soon full production will resume,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “However, reportedly two ships from Europe full of California-blend gasoline are already headed toward Los Angeles, which may help offset the product shortage.”
The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on Sept. 22, averages are:
