(LOS ANGELES, Aug. 9, 2011) —Gas prices moved very little over the past month throughout Southern California, with most cities posting current prices just a few cents different from July, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California monthly Fuel Gauge Report.
The Southern California August average price for regular unleaded self-serve gasoline is $3.797, eight-tenths of one cent lower than the July average of $3.805 and 63 cents higher than last year’s August Fuel Gauge price of $3.164.
The Southern California August average price for regular unleaded self-serve gasoline is $3.797, eight-tenths of one cent lower than the July average of $3.805 and 63 cents higher than last year’s August Fuel Gauge price of $3.164.
The statewide average price of $3.783 is two-tenths of a penny lower than the July average of $3.781 and 60 cents higher than last year’s August Fuel Gauge statewide price average of $3.179. The lowest-priced gas in California can be found in Marysville, with an average of $3.64, while the surveyed California city with the highest price is Yreka at $3.99. Among surveyed Southern California cities, the lowest price average can be found in La Habra at $3.719 and the highest gas price average is in Del Mar at $3.936.
Nationally, the August average price of $3.652 is almost two cents higher than the July average of $3.636. Hawaii has the highest average price among U.S. states at $4.136. Arizona has the lowest state average price at $3.364.
“The nosedive in oil prices over recent days has yet to significantly affect gas prices locally or around the country, which isn’t surprising since that cheaper oil will take awhile to reach gasoline pumps,” said Auto Club spokesperson Jeffrey Spring. “Sustained lower oil prices as well as reports of lower demand should result in reduced gas prices, but other factors such as hurricane season could counterbalance that downward pressure.”
