(LOS ANGELES, July 12, 2011) —While gas prices began heading upward again in the past few days, they posted monthly declines throughout the Southland, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California monthly Fuel Gauge Report.

The statewide average price of $3.781 is also 15 cents lower than the June average of $3.936 and 65 cents higher than last year’s July Fuel Gauge statewide price average of $3.136. The lowest-priced gas in California can be found in Marysville, with an average of $3.657, while the surveyed California city with the highest price is Eureka at $4.073. Among surveyed Southern California cities, the lowest price average can be found in Escondido at $3.72 and the highest gas price average is in El Centro at $3.928.
Nationally, the July average price of $3.636 is six cents lower than the June average of $3.696. Alaska has the highest average price among U.S. states at $4.079. Arizona has the lowest state average price at $3.371.
“Back in January, the Southern California average gas price was $3.35 – 45 cents below today,” said Auto Club spokesperson Jeffrey Spring. “It’s discouraging to see gas prices heading back up when they’re still so close to $4 a gallon. It’s another signal that drivers can’t ease up on fuel-saving habits like regularly checking and correcting their tire pressure, avoiding high speeds, keeping their cars maintained and shopping around for cheaper gas prices using online resources like the AAA TripTik app or AAA.com/triptik.”
