(LOS ANGELES, July 13, 2010) —Local gas prices pushed even higher above $3 a gallon in the last month, rising by nearly a nickel in most areas, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California monthly Fuel Gauge Report.
The Southern California June average price for regular unleaded self-serve gasoline is $3.123, nearly four cents higher than the June average of $3.085. This month’s average price is 22 cents higher than last year’s July price average of $2.90.
The statewide average price of $3.136 is five cents higher than the June average of $3.081. Chico in Northern California has the lowest average price in the state at $3.032, while South Lake Tahoe has the highest gas price average at $3.352. The lowest price average in Southern California for the second month in a row is in Escondido, at $3.052. The highest-priced Southern California gas is once again in Laguna Beach, which has an average price of $3.269 a gallon.

Nationally, the June average price of $2.713 is almost the same as the June average of $2.718. Alaska continues to have the most expensive gas in the country with an average price of $3.504 – also almost unchanged from last month. South Carolina again has the lowest state average price at $2.466, which is about four cents lower than that’s state average last month.
“Southern California gas prices have actually been dropping for the past week in most areas, but not enough to cancel out the increase since June,” said Auto Club spokesperson Jeffrey Spring. “Oil industry analysts point out that fuel supply continues to be plentiful nationwide.”
