Southern California gasoline prices rose in the last week, particularly in the last 24 hours, on news of low inventory coupled with a partial refinery maintenance shutdown, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The state average is $3.963 a gallon for regular today – 6.6 cents higher than last week.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.996 per gallon, which is 9.8 cents more than last week, 5.3 cents lower than last month, and 23 cents lower than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $3.975, which is 9.8 cents above last week, 5.1 cents below last month, and 24 cents lower than last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $4.05, up 6.7 cents from last week, 7.3 cents lower than a month ago, and 20 cents less than last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per-gallon price is $3.95, up 7.5 cents from last week, 7.8 cents lower than last month, and 25 cents less than last year.
“Wholesale Los Angeles gasoline prices for regular unleaded have jumped by nearly 40 cents in the last week, but did drop slightly on Wednesday,” said Auto Club spokesperson Jeffrey Spring. “The increase came in response to reports that a Torrance-area refinery will be performing extensive maintenance nearly all this month.”
