Southern California gas prices backed off slightly in the past week in most areas in response to wholesale gasoline price drops, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The state average is $4.025 a gallon for regular today – 1.4 cents lower than last week.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $4.093 per gallon, which is 2.2 cents less than last week, 4 cents lower than last month, and 26 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $4.070, which is 1.3 cents below last week, 4 cents below last month, and 26 cents higher than last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $4.136, which is three-tenths of a cent above last week, 1 cent lower than a month ago, and 27 cents more than last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per-gallon price is $4.058, down eight-tenths of one cent from last week, 3 cents lower than last month, and 27 cents more than last year.
“Since June 1, Los Angeles drivers have seen just seven days of gas price averages under $4 a gallon, making this summer the second-most expensive one ever for drivers so far next to 2008,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “The average price paid by Los Angeles drivers for regular unleaded is $4.06 since June 1, and for all of 2013 so far the average price paid is $4.03.”
