Supply concerns after Hurricane Harvey’s devastation have pushed up prices nationally and locally, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail statewide average is $3.02 a gallon for regular unleaded, four cents higher than a week ago.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.06 per gallon, which is four cents more than last week, 10 cents above last month, and 34 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $3.03, which is four cents above last week, ten cents more than last month, and 31 cents more than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.08, which is up four cents from last week, nine cents higher than last month, and 32 cents higher than last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per-gallon price is $2.99, which is five cents more than last week, ten cents more than last month, and 33 cents more than at this time last year.
“The national gas price average has jumped by 10 cents in the last week to $2.45 a gallon, and some Midwestern, Eastern and Southern states have seen even sharper weekly increases,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “California’s gasoline and oil supplies do not come from the Gulf Coast, but we are seeing a slight uptick before the long holiday weekend because the disaster has caused concern along the entire supply chain.”
The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on Aug. 31, averages are:
