After one month of drops, gas prices in many Southern California areas stayed fairly steady over the last week, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail statewide average is $2.93 a gallon for regular unleaded, one cent less than a week ago.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $2.92 per gallon, which is unchanged from last week, 13 cents below last month, and five cents lower than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $2.90, which is also unchanged from last week, 12 cents less than last month, and four cents less than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $2.95, three cents less than last week, 12 cents lower than last month, and five cents lower than last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per-gallon price is $2.87, which is down one cent from last week, 13 cents less than last month, and four cents less than last year.
“Two Southern California refineries reported unplanned flaring last week, which can reduce fuel production,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “Oil prices have also risen in the last two weeks, so at the moment there is less room for pump prices to decline further, although average prices are still slightly lower than at this time last year.”
The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on July 6, averages are:
