Lower oil prices and demand pushed down gas prices slightly in the last week despite the fire at the Marathon refinery in Carson, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s retail statewide average is $3.46 a gallon for regular unleaded, which is two cents less than last week.

The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.54 per gallon, which is three cents lower than last week, four cents lower than a month ago, and 19 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $3.53, which is two cents lower than last Thursday, four cents less than last month, and 22 cents higher than last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.56, which is one cent lower than last week, four cents lower than last month, and 22 cents higher than last year. In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $3.46, which is two cents lower than last week, two cents lower than last month, and 20 cents higher than last year. In San Bernardino, the $3.49 average price is two cents less than last week, five cents lower than last month, and 19 cents higher than a year ago today.

“Crude oil prices are at their lowest levels in more than a year in response to demand drops due to the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “We expect that will continue to have a greater influence on local gas prices than the refinery fire unless we learn that the fire will have a long-term impact on Southern California fuel supply.”

The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on March 5, averages are:
