(LOS ANGELES – Feb. 24, 2011) – Gas prices sprung upward by double digits over the past week in most local areas, bringing average prices near to or at $3.60, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California’s Weekend Gas Watch.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.604 per gallon, which is 10.2 cents more than last week, 25 cents higher than last month, and 66 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the price is $3.618, 11.6 cents more than last week, 27 cents above last month, and 67 cents higher than last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.640, up 9.5 cents from last week, 25 cents higher than a month ago, and 64 cents above last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per gallon price is $3.580, which is 10.4 cents higher than last week, 24 cents higher than last month, and 63 cents more than last year.

“Continued Middle East tension has pushed oil prices to levels not seen since 2008, which was the only other year gas prices were this high,” said Auto Club spokesperson Jeffrey Spring. “As we head into the traditional months for gas price increases, the Auto Club advises motorists to conserve fuel by regularly checking and correcting their tire pressure, refraining from speeding, carpooling when possible and removing unnecessary excess weight from their vehicles.”
