Editor’s note: The Riverside/San Bernardino gas price average has now been separated out for each city.
Southern California gas prices continued to drop slightly in most areas during and after the holiday weekend, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail statewide average is $3.18 a gallon for regular unleaded, two cents lower than last Wednesday.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.22 per gallon, which is two cents less than last Thursday, 14 cents higher than last month, and 51 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $3.19, two cents lower than a week ago, 15 cents more than last month, and 48 cents more than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.25, which is unchanged from last Thursday, 20 cents higher than last month, and 49 cents higher than last year. In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $3.16, which is two cents lower than last week, 17 cents more than last month, and 48 cents more than at this time last year.
“Los Angeles wholesale gasoline prices continue to leave some room for further price drops at local stations, although oil prices are still trading near a two-year high of almost $60 a barrel,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. ”To get to the prices that Southern California motorists were paying on Halloween, we would have to see the average drop by about 15 more cents a gallon in most areas. That’s unlikely to happen before the end of 2017 if prices continue dropping this slowly.”
The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on Nov. 30, averages are:
