Gas Prices Hover at High Levels

(LOS ANGELES – Nov. 3, 2011) –Local gas prices hovered at the same high levels over the past week, inching up very slightly in most areas, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California’s Weekend Gas Watch.

The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.869 per gallon, which is half a cent higher than last week, 2.8 cents higher than last month, and 75 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the price is $3.851, an increase of seven-tenths of a cent from last week, 2.3 cents above last month, and 75 cents higher than last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.899, down 1.7 cents from last week, 2.2 cents higher than a month ago, and 71 cents above last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per gallon price is $3.838, down three-tenths of a cent from last week, 1.7 cents higher than last month, and 73 cents more than last year.
“We just polled Auto Club members about the effects of high gas prices, and 70 percent say the prices are currently having a significant effect on their budgets,” said Auto Club spokesperson Jeffrey Spring. “Within that 70 percent of Southern Californians, 80 percent have reduced their driving, 60 percent have cut back on restaurant meals and 49 percent are putting less money into savings. The poll found that gas prices are also affecting holiday shopping and travel plans.”
