Gas prices moved by a penny or less in most Southern California over the past week after an initial surge at the start of the year, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail statewide average is $3.18 a gallon for regular unleaded, one cent higher than last Thursday.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.25 per gallon, which is unchanged from last Thursday, 14 cents higher than last month, and 39 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $3.22, which is one cent higher than a week ago, 13 cents more than last month, and 37 cents more than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.23, which is a cent higher than last Thursday, nine cents higher than last month, and 33 cents higher than last year. In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $3.18, which is unchanged from last week, 12 cents more than last month, and 39 cents more than at this time last year.
“Oil prices continue to trade near two-year highs, which affects fuel production costs, but inventories at the moment are reportedly good as refineries prepare to shut down units for scheduled maintenance, which will start reducing production sometime in the next month or so,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring.
The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on Jan. 18, averages are:
