Gas prices fell between three to five cents in most Southern California areas in the past week following earlier drops in the regional wholesale gasoline market, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The state average is $4.204 a gallon for regular today – 3.4 cents lower than last week.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $4.285 per gallon, which is 3.8 cents less than last week, 19 cents higher than last month, and 9.3 cents lower than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $4.239, which is 5.2 cents below last week, 14.8 cents above last month, and 13.3 cents lower than last year. On the CentralCoast, the average price is $4.295, down 3 cents from last week, 23.9 cents higher than a month ago, and 12.6 cents less than last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per-gallon price is $4.249, down 4.2 cents from last week, 19.3 cents higher than last month, and 11 cents less than last year.
“Most California refineries have concluded their scheduled maintenance in advance of selling summer gasoline without major incidents, and one result is that wholesale gasoline prices in Los Angeles have fallen more than 40 cents per gallon since peaking on February 15,” said Auto Club spokesperson JeffreySpring. “While local prices are still significantly above $4 per gallon, it is nice to see them start to drop before spring break begins.”
The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on Mar. 7, averages are:
