(LOS ANGELES, Sept. 9, 2010) – Some Southland gas price averages have dropped below $3 a gallon for the first time since February of this year, and prices throughout Southern California are nearly a dime lower than at this time last year, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California’s Weekend Gas Watch.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.007 per gallon, which is 3.4 cents less than last week, 14.2 cents lower than last month, and 8.5 cents lower than last year. In San Diego, the price is $3.016, 3.6 cents lower than last week’s price, 12.6 cents below last month, and 9.2 cents lower than last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.052, down 6.4 cents from last week, 17.5 cents lower than a month ago, and 13.8 cents below last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per gallon price is $2.991, which is 3.9 cents lower than last week, 13 cents lower than last month, and 9.1 cents less than last year.

“This is the first time in 2010 that local motorists are paying less than they were at the same time one year ago,” said Auto Club spokesperson Jeffrey Spring. “However, it’s hard to know if the price decreases will continue, because other states are now experiencing increases or plateaus in their pump prices despite the fact that oil prices have settled down and demand remains sluggish.”
