Gas Prices Creep Upward

(LOS ANGELES, Aug. 5, 2010) – Southern California gas prices continued their lazy summer movement, inching up in most areas by just fractions of a penny in the past week, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California’s Weekend Gas Watch.

The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.129 per gallon, which is seven-tenths of one cent more than last week, nine-tenths of a cent higher than last month, and 18 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the price is $3.138, six-tenths of one penny higher than last week’s price, 2.6 cents above last month, and 19 cents higher than last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.188, down 1.2 cents from last week, nine-tenths of a cent higher than a month ago, and 15 cents above last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per gallon price is $3.111, which is one-tenth of a penny higher than last week, four-tenths of a cent higher than last month, and 17 cents more than last year.
“Gas prices are only 10 to 15 cents higher per gallon than on Jan. 1, and about 20 cents higher than their lowest point of this year so far in late February,” said Auto Club spokesperson Jeffrey Spring.  “We haven’t seen this level of stability in pump prices since the 1990s, although prices now have almost tripled from that period.”
The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 1 p.m. on Aug. 5, averages are:
