The traditional Southern California spring spike in gasoline prices is as yet nowhere to be seen, but prices did inch up by about a penny for the third straight week, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail statewide average is $3.012 a gallon for regular unleaded, 1.6 cents higher than a week ago.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.051 per gallon, which is 1.4 cents higher than last week, one cent higher than last month, and 22 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $3.028, which is six-tenths of a cent higher than last week, three-tenths of a cent lower than last month, and 24 cents more than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.122, one cent more than last week, three cents higher than a month ago, and 30 cents higher than last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per-gallon price is $3.004, 1.8 cents more than last week, one cent more than this time last month, and 20 cents more than last year.
“Southern California average gas prices have remained in an unusually narrow 10-cent range for more than two months,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “And while local prices are about 20 cents above last year, so far they are remaining below 2015 levels. On this date two years ago, the average Los Angeles gasoline price was $3.22.”
The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on April 20, averages are:
