Editor’s note: The Riverside/San Bernardino gas price average has now been separated out for each city. The Weekend Gas Watch is being published today due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

As 3.3 million Southern Californians drive to Thanksgiving weekend travel destinations and other motorists head out to shop, their gas station fill-ups will be less expensive than earlier this month but about 40 to 50 cents higher per gallon than last year at this time, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail statewide average is $3.20 a gallon for regular unleaded, three cents lower than last Wednesday.

The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.25 per gallon, which is four cents less than last Wednesday, 19 cents higher than last month, and 51 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $3.22, five cents lower than a week ago, 18 cents more than last month, and 47 cents more than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.25, which is a penny lower than last Wednesday, 21 cents higher than last month, and 48 cents higher than last year. In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $3.18, which is three cents lower than last week, 19 cents more than last month, and 46 cents more than at this time last year.

“Gas prices declined after the wholesale market completely recovered from supply worries earlier this month and dropped back to the same levels of mid-October, when Los Angeles average retail prices were $3.06 a gallon,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. ”However, the 12-cent gas tax that took effect Nov. 1 makes it unlikely we will see prices drop to that level unless wholesale gasoline prices continue to fall.”

The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on Nov. 22, averages are:
