Southern California drivers will have a bit more money in their wallets for Thanksgiving getaways and holiday shopping as gas prices dropped by more than a penny a day over the last week, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail state average is $2.762 a gallon for regular today, 6.7 cents less than last week.

The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $2.851 per gallon, which is 8.3 cents lower than last week, 14 cents less than last month, and 32 cents lower than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $2.804, which is 7.3 cents less than last week, 13 cents lower than last month, and 34 cents less than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $2.83, 10.1 cents less than last week, 13 cents lower than a month ago, and 33 cents less than last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per-gallon price is $2.788, 7.1 cents lower than last week, 12 cents less than last month, and 33 cents less than last year.

“The Auto Club is projecting that 3.54 million Southern Californians will take holiday trips next week, which is a slight increase over last year,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “Those drivers will be paying about $5 less per full tank than they did during last year’s Thanksgiving weekend. Wholesale prices have dropped by about 50 cents per gallon since the start of November as supplies have apparently stabilized.”

The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on Nov. 19, averages are:
