Gas prices continued downward for a second straight week, posting drops of nearly a penny a day, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The state average is $4.15 a gallon for regular today – 5.4 cents lower than last week.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $4.222 per gallon, which is 6.3 cents less than last week, 1.9 cents higher than last month, and 18 cents lower than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $4.175, which is 6.4 cents below last week, eight-tenths of one cent below last month, and 21 cents lower than last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $4.241, down 5.4 cents from last week, 6.3 cents higher than a month ago, and 20 cents less than last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per-gallon price is $4.189, down 6.0 cents from last week, 1.9 cents higher than last month, and 19 cents less than last year.
“With Los Angeles wholesale prices reported at near $3 a gallon – dropping from a high of $3.45 last month – retail prices have plenty of room to continue dropping,” said Auto Club spokesperson Jeffrey Spring. “However, as we have seen many times in the past, prices tend to be most volatile in the spring and conditions can change at a moment’s notice.”
