Southern California travelers enjoyed mostly price declines this week over last week’s holiday, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail state average is $2.866 a gallon for regular today, 3.5 cents less than last Thursday.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $2.922 per gallon, which is 4.6 cent lower than last week, 2 cents higher than last month, and $1.18 cents lower than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $2.904, which is 3.4 cents lower than last week, 3 cents lower than last month, and $1.25 less than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $2.974, 2.6 cents less than last week, 3 cents higher than a month ago, and $1.02 less than last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per-gallon price is $2.881, 2.4 cents less than last week, 3 cents more than last month, and $1.19 less than last year.
“As is often the case, drivers on the West Coast continue to pay the most expensive gas prices in the nation; but we continue to experience the most substantial yearly savings at the pump,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “Californians are paying about 93 cents a gallon less than a year ago contributing to gasoline demand and increased numbers of travelers on the road.”
The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on July 14, averages are:
