Gas price averages in Los Angeles and San Diego are less than 10 cents away from $4 a gallon, but there are signs the weekly price increases that began before Christmas may soon come to an end, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California’s Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s retail statewide average is $3.87 a gallon for regular unleaded, which is nine cents higher than last week.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.92 per gallon, which is seven cents higher than last week, 35 cents higher than last month, and 59 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $3.91, which is eight cents higher than last week, 36 cents more than than last month, and 56 cents higher than last year.
On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.86, which is nine cents higher than last week, 36 cents higher than last month, and 42 cents higher than last year. In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $3.86, which is nine cents higher than last week, 37 cents higher than last month, and 57 cents higher than last year. In Bakersfield, the $3.76 average price is nine cents higher than last week, 36 cents higher than last month, and 38 cents higher than a year ago today.
“Oil Price Information Service reported Wednesday that wholesale prices are now dropping on news that some gasoline components that were in short supply have now arrived from overseas,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “Also, OPIS reported that Arizona supply issues are resolving as Texas refineries return to full production, so California refineries are sending less gasoline to Arizona.”
