Editors note: Weekend Gas Watch is being published today due to the holiday and is a weekly comparison from Wednesday to Wednesday.
As drivers gas up to hit the road this holiday weekend, they will be paying the lowest Thanksgiving prices in seven years, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail state average is $2.711 a gallon for regular today, 6.5 cents less than last Wednesday.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $2.804 per gallon, which is 6.3 cents lower than last week, 14 cents less than last month, and 31 cents lower than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $2.762, which is 6.8 cents less than last week, 13 cents lower than last month, and 33 cents less than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $2.778, 6.9 cents less than last week, 17 cents lower than a month ago, and 35 cents less than last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per-gallon price is $2.732, 6.8 cents lower than last week, 14 cents less than last month, and 34 cents less than last year.
“With more than 3 million Southern Californians traveling by car this weekend, the average driver will be paying about $42 per 15-gallon fill-up, which is the lowest amount since the $32 fill-ups in 2008 at the start of the recession,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “Barring any supply issues, we should continue to see price declines through the end of the year. Wherever they travel, drivers can use the AAA mobile app to find the lowest local gas prices.”
The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on Nov. 25, averages are:
