Further drops in wholesale prices have brought pump prices down by about a penny a day over the last week in most areas, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail state average is $4.076 a gallon for regular today, 5.2 cents less than last week.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $4.101 per gallon, which is 6.3 cents less than last week, 3.4 cents less than last month, and four-tenths of a cent lower than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $4.066, which is 6.7 cents less than last week, 3.5 cents higher than last month, and 1 cent lower than last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $4.121, 5.2 cents less than last week, 2 cents lower than a month ago, and 1.5 cents less than last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per-gallon price is $4.078, down 5.8 cents from last week, 2 cents less than last month, and 2 cents more than last year.
“An improving supply situation has caused even more drops in wholesale prices, and if the trend continues, we could see gas price averages drop below $4 a gallon in most areas in the next couple of weeks,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “We definitely recommend that drivers should shop around and look for gas stations that are currently charging less than $4 a gallon.”
