Local gas prices continued their relatively slow springtime upward movement this week, increasing by just a few cents in most areas, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail statewide average is $3.62 a gallon for regular unleaded, two cents higher than last Thursday.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.67 per gallon, which is two cents more than last week, an increase of 10 cents from last month, and 65 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $3.66, which is three cents more than last Thursday, 13 cents more than last month, and 67 cents higher than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.68, which is one cent higher than last week, 11 cents higher than last month, and 60 cents higher than last year. In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $3.61, which is four cents more than last week, 12 cents higher than last month, and 64 cents more than at this time last year.
“The Southern California gasoline market has remained relatively stable for this time of year, with average prices increasing by just about a quarter per gallon after a long plateau in mid-February through early March,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “Reportedly, gasoline imports from outside the state are keeping inventories steady enough to match demand and prevent the sharp springtime price spikes Southern California experienced from 2011 through 2015.”
