For the second straight week, local gas prices rose by just two cents or less on average in most areas, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail statewide average is $3.53 a gallon for regular unleaded, two cents higher than last Thursday.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.58 per gallon, which is unchanged from last week, 13 cents higher than last month, and 54 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $3.56, which is two cents more than last Thursday, 15 cents more than last month, and 54 cents higher than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.59, which is one cent higher than last week, 16 cents higher than last month, and 47 cents higher than last year. In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $3.51, which is one cent more than last week, 14 cents higher than last month, and 54 cents more than at this time last year.
“Underlying gasoline wholesale prices have wavered within a range of about 10 cents for about the past month, allowing pump prices to remain relatively stable for this time of year,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “Barring any major incidents affecting supply or oil prices, it seems unlikely right now that price averages will push as high as $4 a gallon this spring.”
The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on April 12, averages are:
