Gas prices continued dropping throughout Southern California for the fifth straight week, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail statewide average is $3.57 a gallon for regular unleaded, which is five cents lower than last week.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.60 per gallon, which is five cents lower than last week, 25 cents lower than last month, and 38 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $3.56, which is six cents lower than last Thursday, 25 cents lower than last month, and 36 cents higher than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.60, which is five cents lower than week, 24 cents lower than last month, and 35 cents higher than last year. In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $3.49, which is seven cents lower than last week, 28 cents lower than last month, and 33 cents more than this time last year.
“Oil prices have dropped by more than 20 percent in the last month, bringing the national average gas price of $2.51 a gallon very close to the same price level as this time last year,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “Unfortunately, Southern California drivers are still paying nearly 40 cents more per gallon on average than at this time last year. But we could see a few local stations post prices under $3 a gallon for regular unleaded in the next week or two.”
The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on Nov. 29, averages are:
