As a record number of Southern Californians returned from Independence Day getaways, gas prices held steady, according to the Auto Club’s Weekend Gas Watch. The average price for self-serve regular gasoline in California is $4.77, which is one cent lower than a week ago. The average national price is $3.54, which is three cents higher than a week ago.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $4.76 per gallon, which is two cents lower than last week and 20 cents less than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $4.82, which is the same as last week and 11 cents lower than this time last year.
On the Central Coast, the average price is $4.91, which is the same as last week and one cent lower than last year. In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $4.69, which is the same as last week and 12 cents lower than a year ago. In Bakersfield, the $4.83 average price is two cents less than last week and one cent lower than a year ago today.
“We have seen a few weeks of steady gas prices after more than two months of price drops, reflecting stability in supply and demand,” said Auto Club spokesperson Doug Shupe. “According to Oil Price Information Service, California refinery production of gasoline for vehicles fell sharply last week, but prices do not seem to be affected so far.”
