Southern California gas prices remained near their highest levels since 2015 for a second straight week, but could drop significantly in coming days, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail statewide average is $3.81 a gallon for regular unleaded, which is one cent lower than last week.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.87 per gallon, which is unchanged from last week, 16 cents higher than last month, and 81 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $3.83, which is a penny lower than last Thursday, 16 cents higher than last month, and 79 cents higher than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.87, which is one cent lower than week, 17 cents higher than last month, and 83 cents higher than last year. In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $3.80, which is unchanged from last week, 21 cents higher than last month, and 81 cents more than at this time last year.
“Los Angeles wholesale gasoline prices plunged this week, partly because oil prices dropped and partly because of the lower-cost ‘winter blend’ gasoline that refineries are now producing,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “Winter blend gasoline will be sold at Southern California gas stations starting Nov. 1, so that should lower gas prices significantly barring any supply disruptions.”
