Gas prices in all major metropolitan areas of Southern California dropped slightly last week amid signals that more reductions could be on the way, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail statewide average is $3.72 a gallon for regular unleaded, a penny lower than last Thursday.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.74 per gallon, which is two cents less than week, unchanged from last month, and 72 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $3.74, which is one cent less than last Thursday, three cents more than last month, and 75 cents higher than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.79, which is two cents lower than last week, five cents higher than last month, and 73 cents higher than last year. In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $3.69, which is a penny lower than last week, two cents higher than last month, and 73 cents more than at this time last year.
“Oil industry analysts are now saying that lower than-expected gasoline demand in California this summer, coupled with excess supply, could drive down prices in coming weeks,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “Consumers should aggressively shop around for the lowest gas prices using services like the free AAA Mobile app to make sure they don’t overpay for gasoline while prices are dropping.”
The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on June 14, averages are:
