Last week’s power outage at the Chevron El Segundo refinery after it was struck by lightning sent gas prices upward because of supply concerns, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail statewide average is $3.26 a gallon for regular unleaded, which is three cents higher than last week.

The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.32 per gallon, which is six cents higher than last week, three cents lower than last month, and 14 cents lower than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $3.28, which is six cents higher than last Thursday, three cents lower than last month, and 15 cents lower than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.33, which is five cents higher than last week, six cents lower than last month, and eight cents lower than last year. In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $3.22, which is six cents higher than last week, the same price as last month, and 17 cents lower than last year. In San Bernardino, the $3.26 average price is five cents higher than last week, three cents lower than last month, and 15 cents lower than a year ago today.

“A Chevron spokesperson told Oil Price Information Service (OPIS) on Wednesday that the El Segundo refinery is still working to restore full capacity,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “OPIS also reported that there was a spike in recent days in California refiners buying gasoline on the open market to make up production shortfalls. However, that spike appears to be over, so upward pressure on pump prices may be easing a bit.”

The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on Feb. 7, averages are:
