Auto Club Of Southern California Now Accepting Credit Cards For DMV Transactions

The Automobile Club of Southern California’s 86 branches are now accepting credit cards for DMV transactions, making vehicle-related DMV services even more convenient for members. Previously, these transactions required cash or check payments.

“We are pleased to offer this added convenience to our members, who have been requesting the ability to use a credit card for DMV payments,” said Pamela Shepherd, the Auto Club’s vice president for branch operations. “DMV field offices recently began accepting credit card payments, so the Auto Club is now able to offer this ability as well.”

Members who opt to pay for DMV services by credit card* will be charged a 2.3 percent service fee, similar to what the DMV charges for credit card usage. To avoid the fee, members can continue to pay with cash or a check.

The Auto Club processes vehicle-related DMV transactions such as registrations, renewals and title transfers for members. It does not provide driver licenses, driver permits or REAL IDs.

In addition to DMV services, Auto Club branches offer a full-service travel agency available to members and non-members, with members receiving special benefits and discounts on select travel packages, as well as complimentary travel publications such as maps, TourBooks™ and customized TripTiks. Southern Californians can also visit the branch to shop for auto, homeowner, rental, life and many other types of insurance policies, or to receive a referral to buy a new or used car through the Auto Club Car Buying program for members.

The majority of Auto Club branches are open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visit the Auto Club’s branch locator to find the hours and location of the closest branch.

* A surcharge of 2.3% will be charged by the Auto Club to those who pay for their California DMV transaction by Visa or Mastercard Credit Card. The surcharge is charged to help cover the Auto Club’s costs for processing Visa and Mastercard credit card payments that are made for California DMV transactions. The surcharge amount is not greater than the Auto Club’s cost of acceptance for these credit card payments. The surcharge is waived when paying by cash or check. The Auto Club does not accept Discover, American Express, or debit cards, including those with a Visa or Mastercard logo.
